The lingering touch
of your welcome hand
upon my skin
fills me with a happiness,
just knowing that I'm close to you.
There's a sense of security
only you can bring me.
It amazes me
how the simple nearness of you
can cause me such anxiety,
and yet at the same time
you can instantly calm me.
What special place
do you hold in my heart?
and I in yours?
Could I be the love
you've been searching for?
and might you be mine?
Or, am I to forever live suffering,
knowing that you were once my love
but I was never yours;
knowing that in your eyes,
I will never be more than a dear friend.
And yet, even as I write this
I think to myself that I should be greatful.
Not only for
the experiences you've given me,
but for letting me thrive on pure passion.
if only for a moment.
Even if unrequitted,
love is love,
(and) it will always remain
in my heart and in my memory;
where I shall forever feel
the lingering touch
of your welcome hand.
